How is our Provence trip related to the latest embroidery file?

Please find below a short summary of our recent trip to Provence in Southern France. Apart from the great impressions we got there the trip also inspired some new embroidery files to come. Even when the report is in German you can have a look at the pictures we took to understand what made us happy …

Der Stickbär has 10th Birthday

Already some time I did machine embroidery and created my own designs and digitized them. So my family and I decided to make a profession our of the hobby. The name Stickbaer, what means embroidery bear, came from my husband, who is my bear.

And since we, as a family are doing all things together we decided to run a family business in a little shop.

I am doing the creative part. I am creating the embroidery files by myself, most of the underlying sketches are done by me. All motifs will be embroidered. All photographs are shot by me.

The other, administrative part is done by my husband: the platform, functionality, the Big picture!

Tatjana is embroidering, Bär is doing care = Stickbär.

And so the Stickbaer was founded on April 7th 2007.

Now it was official and we started to sell my creations. I was happy about each single order.

And we added and added new collections. Not only applique, cross stitch and embroidery, we also started to In-The-Hoop projects and are happy to bring new techniques to our community.

Today we offer not less then 600 different collections, most of them in variations to you.

I want to thank you, dear readers and friends. I met so many lovely people, I am receiving so many friendly mails and comments that I cannot count.

To thank you all we have here the Stickbaer as Easter egg Bear.

The embroidery file for the 10x10cm hoop is done as applique. You can download it in various formats here:

Stickbaer-10-Anniversary-Freebie

Follow the steps below to embroider your bear:

Hoop the fabric very taut together with the stabilizer. Make sure that the hooped fabric does not have any wrinkles or is hooped loosely.

First we will embroider the baer, then the egg applique.

The machine will embroider a placement shape for the fabric placement of the applique.

Place the fabric over the outline and let the machine sew it onto the background fabric.

Remove the frame from the machine but not the project from the frame and trim the applique fabric back close to the stitches.

First, the machine will fixate the fabrics again with a zig- zag stitch and then with the satin stitch.

At the very end, the machine will embroider the last details of the design.

That’s it, your bear is done.

Enjoy your new motive.

Liebe Grüße

Christmas Presents

I know, I know, the heading sounds strange begin of january …

But I wanted to show you not the presents I am preparing, but the presents I received last Christmas.

My husband fulfilled a longtime wish of mine. I am loving the little wooden figures of Wendt&Kühn so much. The angels orchestra, the flower kids and marguerites kids. I am owning already some of them, for many, many years. Some of them I got from my great-grandmother. This you can (unfortunately) see. Some are missing a flower or even an arm.

W&K-Spieluhr-4

Some others I got 20 years back from my colleagues during a  banking seminar (it was my birthday) in Oberwiesenthal.

W&K-Spieluhr-6

W&K-Spieluhr-5

My secret wish was a music box.

And now I got one. It is rather old and my husband reworked it.

W&K-Spieluhr

It is playing the German children song “Alle Vöglein sind schon da…” (See German Wikipedia)

W&K-Spieluhr-1

W&K-Spieluhr-2

Look how perfectly my Flower kids are looking at the music box.

W&K-Spieluhr-3

Of course I did a matching “floor”: a Hexie-Log-Cabin in matching colors.

Deckchen-WK-1

My husband said a doily would be a better match?!

Deckchen-WK-2

……………………………………….

There is another present to mention I did to myself.

Tatis-BMW-0

My new motobike is a 2006 BMW F650 GS.

My first plan to buy a Honda. There is no big choice when you are 1,59m.

I found a black F650 at a BMW dealer, however finally made it this red one. We found it near Regensburg over the Internet. OMG, what have we done in those anxious times without internet.

Regensburg is just one hour to drive so we picked the bike in december.

Tatis-BMW-1

Tatis-BMW-2

The perfect size for me.

Tatis-BMW-3

Hah. Not yet perfect. I still have to get a license.

But on Wednesday I’ll start my lessons. I will go to drivers school together with my son Paul who is doing the license as well.

Tatis-BMW-4

This is our garage looking now:

Moppeds

On the left the F650 of my husband, the white Yamaha is the WR125R of Paul and in the back is my BMW.

Our cars? They are outside. No problem for the Volvo. But the Fiat likes it warm.

And now all we are waiting for the spring to come.

Many greetings.

The new Kid in the Sewing Room

New kid in the meaning of the word, since my newest machine is branded “Babylock”.

But one after the other:

I like Patchwork and Quilting for some years now. My interest moved from sewing clothing to sewing of pillows, mugrugs, tablecloth and especially quilts.

I started with a Baltimore-Quilt, this was my very first.

Baltimore

This was 8 years ago and since then I sewed a lot of blankets you can use every day; art quilts that one cannot wash and you should not look to strong on them are not my preference.

The most I like when my creations are hand quilted. My Baltimore is still naked. Over the years i learned hand quilting on the little projects like mugrugs and pillows.

If it not was that hard. Looking pretty but taking so much time…

Patchquilt3

And then a few months ago I first heard about the Sashiko.

This machine is pure luxury, it has only ONE stitch. But this stitch is great.

And for a long time I was thinking “do I need it or do I not”?

And some weeks ago I attended the “Nadelwelt” in Karlsruhe and could test it extensibly.

And the next day I called my favourite machine dealer Thomas Sommer in Regensburg and ordered one.

And last week, as the topping on our holidays, we went to Regensburg and picked it up.

What a pride:

Sashiko-1

White and pretty …

Sashiko-2

Really one stitch only, but this perfectly.

Sashiko-3

Sashiko-9

So sauber, so gleichmäßig.

Sashiko-10

BTW, I can easily adopt size and distance of the stitches, depending what effect it should make.

Ok, curious now? I hope you are now not infected by that virus like I am.

……………………….

So I am out quilting 😉

Alles Liebe

Needle World in Karlsruhe and my Smartphone problem

What a weekend in Karlsruhe.

Although I planned to drive with my cabrio car open I had to drive closed because of rain. But in Karlsruhe sun was laughing.

Kasia and I met in the Novotel hotel in downtown. Not easy to find because of a city full with road works.

After a dose of coffein we went to the fairground a little bit outside Karlsruhe.

I wanted to take many nice pictures of  fair booths and quilts. Unfortunately I left the camery at home. No problem I thought, lets take the smartphone cam.

But I have to admit I am a noob.

I found the camera app on my phone and took tons of really impressing pictures but …. I even asked the booth owners for their permission.

But when back  at home I had to realize only the last picture was there.

I didn’t know I had to push the OK button after each single photo to store it.

This is the one and only. It is symptomatic for my visit as most of my time I spend here. Sure the people there know me now by name …

Messestand1

They had the Sashiko there. This machine has only one stitch, this one:

Sashiko

The lady from Babylock was really patient with me, and I could take home my test stitches to bridge the time to when I have my own machine.

This will take a while. Nevertheless  my favourite Machine dealer Thomas Sommer is already ready to get one machine for me.

Of course there was also plenty of beautiful fabrics.

6png

The pink green package will be for my next quilt…

Einkauf3

Still thinking what to do with this treasury.

Einkauf4

Did I mentioned I bought fabrics???

Einkauf7
I also met Désirée from Stoffzauber who had here dog with her. And the most beautiful booth (that I could show you if I knew how to save my pictures).

Einkauf1

The blue package is for a new door wreath. The fabrics to the right are for the dining room bench. The little black box is for powder chalk to transfer quilt patterns.

Kasia and me had a great evening in Karlsruhe. We had some Pasta and walked around the closed Karlsruhe Zoo.

The night was terrible. The downtonw noise for me country bumpkin was beyond all bearing. Where I live you only hear the cats or owl at night.

Nevertheless I enjoyed the second day as well. Now I discovered everything alone since Kasia had to give lessons. So when you plan to do professionel free hand applying you should not miss Kasia’s course. I spend there 20 minutes only as a guest and learned that much …

This was an really exciting weekend.

April Weather in May

Sometimes I get the impression this year urgently needs a calendar to look at.

No snow and ice in winter, it was more like november in january and february. No skiing here.

In march then we had temperatures like in may, I even could plant first tomatoes. In begin of april the fruit trees were blooming. The lilac, a may plant already lost its blossoms for a long time.

And now, mid may we have April weather.

Sun and rain are interchanging rapidly. No time to change clothes.

But, only during such weather you can watch such rainbows. As this one over our garden …

Regenbogen-Garten1

What a light.

Regenbogen-Garten

The rain phases I am spending in my sewing room. Or I am at the computer and thinking about new files for you.

Or, we are listening to you and open a mobile shop, perfect for your smartphone. Now you can look at the Stickbaer shop even when on the road.

With extra large buttons…

Stickbaer-mobil

What are you doing when it is rain outside?

Kissed in March

Do you know this wonderful German poem “Märzküsse”?

It is by the wellknown German author of kids literature James Krüss.

I got it yesterday (together with some delicious cookies) from my friend Susanne.

The poem is about the joy in march and all couples are kissing: sparrows, whales, minks, the man kisses his wife.

Krokusse3 Krokusse1

Even the bees are already busy…

Krokusse2

If I could I would spend the whole day in the garden now, the sun is shining, it is warm.

And, I already planted salad, rocket, kohlrabi and broccoli. I never did this that early.

I can’t believe I was skiing last week.

Nevertheless I was busy as the bees, despite the nice weather, and bring to you the pencil ragbag for the 18x30cm hoop. I know there are some pencil bags already in the shop like

To make it round you can now have the 18x30cm file.

Stiftesammelei-18x30-blog

Here it is in the Stickbaer-Shop for you.

I wish you all a nice and creative weekend!

Cute bakeries

Actually, I was always the old-fashioned cake baker.

Sheet cake, yeast cake, normal cookies, Christmas cookies these was already the highlight of my decorated baking arts .

And now its my swedish friend Lotta’s fault, that I now have a whole drawer full of cake-decorating items.

But I will  report in the right sequence:

Lotta always finds the most amazing sites on the Internet and then send me the links. So recently I found this page:

Passion 4 Baking

WOW! I sat there for hours and had a look at this great site. And when I realized that the blogger Manuela Kjeilen “The back fairy very cute” has published her first book in German, I ordered it.

(Actually, for a good friend, who should get it for a birthday, but that’s another story … I’ll have to order another book, because I keep this here!)

IMG_6765

The best recipes for cupcakes, Tarts, macaroons and more are on the 284 pages of this beautifully designed book.

Yummi! I have to bake everything,

cupcakes-backen-4

While running over the pages I found out very quickly that my kitchen isn’t good equipped to bake really nice looking cookies and cupcakes and decorate them.

So I have spent a week for upgrading my equipment for sugarbaking  a little bit.

4 color fondant, various silicone molds for flowers and leaves, a Deco-Queen (piping bag along with several tips, there are perceived thousands, I found out), I now also have a muffin tin, a tiny mold for the finest writings, eatable glitter powder and pastel-colored food coloring.

Now I’am equipped and began making my first cupcakes.

I had the most fun in making the flowers and leaves using fondant and silicone molds a day earlier.

Backsession-2

Backsession

Some glitter…

Backsession-1

I’ve learned that you have to use the fondant adds CMC powder, so that the flowers are solid or just use flowers paste.

But for the start, I am more than happy, and these are my first flowers.

Backsession-4

The next day I prepared the dough .

Before baking one has first to stir and because some batters actually need 7 minutes of stirring, I’m very happy about my Kitchen Aid.

TIn the meantime I greased the form, because even a silicone mold should be greased (as I now know).

cupcakes-backen-2

This is the new mold I can use now.

cupcakes-backen-3

It wasn’t easy to transport this little wobbly thing to the oven, it was a challenge. Next time I’ll put them just before at the baking sheet.

The result of 25 minutes baking looked very tasty.

The dough was already very delicious licked out from the bowl . With melted chocolate, real vanilla, strong coffee no wonder. These are all things that I likes otherwise too.

cupcakes-backen-6

After cooling, the ising made of egg white, sugar, and vanilla came.

It must be stirred too even seven minutes, thanks to my beloved machine no problem for me.

cupcakes-backen-5

And now on the cake, I could use my new Deco Queen for spraying the Ising.

Of which there are unfortunately no pictures because I needed both hands to do it.

But this was the result:

Cupcake

The flowers and leaves i have put at it too.

Cupcake2

Next time i have to stir the ising more, because it was a little bit fluffy , put i am very proud of my first Cupcakes.

Cupcake6

They tasted very well.

Cupcake7

Next week there are flower cookies, with my new flower cutters.

Would you like to see them?

We will probably now increase 5 kg weight, but it’s worth it;-)

Love sweet greetings

Stickbaer goes UK :-)

Some weeks ago I received an email from Liz, the editor in chief of the biggest UK machine embroidery magazine “Flair Magazine”.

Liz found the Hotdog Bag in our Shop, a file by Kasia and me. And she loved it so she wanted to tell her readers about it in the next issue. That’s why she asked me for permission and support. OK.

Last Saturday the latest Issue 30 of Flair Magazine arrived in my post box.

Flairmag-1

Wow, we are on title page!

What a surprise!

Now I was so excited and on page 28 I found the article.

Flairmag-2

With my name on top.

Flairmag-4

Six full pages are explaining all details about our Hot Dog Bag.

Flairmag-3

That’s SO COOL!

We are of course so happy and proud.

There have been some articles in German magazines, but never in the UK. That’s totally different!

We wish you all a happy and proud week.

Ganz liebe Montagsgrüße
